Biography

Kitty Garrity (Gerraghty) was born in Kilfenora, Co Clare, and emigrated into Australia.

The Persons on Bounty Ships lists show a Kate with surname Gerraghty, aged 2, arriving 6th June 1851 on the Emperor, along with Father James, aged 28, Mother Alice, aged 24, and sister Bridget aged 4.

Kate married Michael in St Bede's Church, Pyrmont, and was buried in the Catholic Cemetery, Rookwood.

In 1882, Kate's sister Ann stole some clothing and goods from the home of Michael Francis and Kate Garrity in Campbell Street, Glebe. Ann was under the influence of alcohol, and was charged.

Kate's funeral left the Mortuary Station, Regent St, City, for the Catholic Cemetery, Rookwood. Her brother Michael Garrity and daughter Alice Blay were in attendance, and mentioned in the funeral notice.
