Horatio Garrott was born about 1782 at Frederick County, Maryland. This estimate is based on the fact that his parents married about January 1779, and his elder brother was, therefore, born about 1780. Horatio was a son of Allen Garrott and Mary Barton Philpott.
On 17 January 1784 (probate 20 March 1784), at Frederick County, Horatio was named in the will of his father, and bequeathed one-half of his father’s land on the road leading from Harper’s Ferry to Frederick Town and £30, when he reached the age of 18 (Frederick County Will Book GM 2, pages 72-74). [1] Horatio was named in the will after his brother John Philpott Garrott. This indicates that Horatio was the younger of the two.
In 1784, Horatio’s mother married Jacob Hackney. In April 1785, Jacob Hackney petitioned the court for guardianship of Horatio’s brother, John P., but not for Horatio. No further records were found for Horatio. Therefore, it appears that Horatio died between 17 January 1784 and April 1785. The location of his burial is unknown.
