Jan Geijs (Gies/Gijs) was born around 1769 in Stads-Ambachten as the son of Abraham Geijs and Pieternella Huijssen. His profession was rope maker ('touwslager'), just like his son Pieter and his grandson Johannes Pieter.
He married four times and became a widower four times. His first marriage was to Elizabeth de Meulemeester in 1793. After her death in 1815, he married Cornelia Hubregtse in 1816. After her death, he married Francina de Koster in 1826. And after her death, he married Dorothea Catharina Graichen (Grijgen) in 1831. She passed away in 1938. Jan passed away in 1844 at the age of 75.
