Biography

Pieter Geijs was born in Middelburg in 1810 as the son of Jan Geijs (or Gies) and Elizabeth de Meulemeester. At the time of his marriage to Jacoba Maria den Beer in 1831, his profession is listed as rope maker ('touwslager'). He passed away in 1847 at the age of 35.

A military certificate from 1831 describes him as being '1 elle, 6 palm, 2 duim, 0 streep' tall, and having a blushing ('blozend') face, a thin forehead, brown eyes, a thick nose, a small mouth, an oval shaped chin, dark brown hair and dark brown eyebrows.

Pieter and his wife were both born on June 1.
