William George was born in Northamptonshire, England.

William George was born in the first quarter of 1851 in Brackley, Northamptonshire, England to James and Maria (Humphreys) George [1] and christened 20 April 1851 in Long Buckby, Northamptonshire. [2] At that time, his father was a boatman on the Grand Union Canal. [3] [4]

In 1861 William, his mother, and siblings were living in Brackley with her father. Perhaps William's father, James, was away from home or, more likely, the census enumerator skipped him, since William's mother is listed as her father's wife. [5]

In 1871 William was living with his parents back in Brackley. He was a laborer and would be one all his life. [6]

William married Sarah Buller 7 January 1872 in Brackley. [7] Sarah brought one child to the marriage. The 1871 census says he was Allen and was born 1869 in Shoteswell, Warwickshire, which is about 14 miles from Brackley. [8] However, there was an Alban Buller born in the fourth quarter of 1868 in the Banbury district which included Shotteswell. No mother's maiden name is listed, which usually means the birth was outside of marriage and the mother's surname was the same as the child's. [9]

Another of Sarah's children, Edwin, was born 1 January 1872, six days before she married William, but not registered until 17 January 1872, 10 days after the wedding. The birth certificate shows William as the father. [10] It has not been determined if William was the biological father, but we are assuming so.

William and Sarah had children:

  • Edwin, 1872 in Brackley;[10]
  • William, 1873 in Charwelton, Northamptonshire;[11]
  • Walter Hudson, 1875 in Charwelton;[12][13]
  • Florence Louisa, 1877 in Halse, Northamptonshire;[14]
  • Harry Leonard, 1879 in Ufton, Warwickshire;[15][16][8]
  • Herbert James, 1882 in Brackley;[17][18]
  • Mabel Emily, 1886 in Brackley;[19][20]
  • Alfred Archie, 1890 in Brackley;[21][22][23]
  • Hilda May, 1892 in Evenley, Northamptonshire.[24][25]

In 1881 [8] and 1891 [23] William and family were living at Antelope Hill, a section of Brackley. In 1901 [25] and 1911 [26] they were in Evenley, a village about two miles south of Brackley.

This George family seems to have had a "wondering" gene and William was no exception. He was born in Brackley, immediately moved to Long Buckby where he was christened, moved back to Brackley by 1861, moved to Charwelton for a few years, moved to Halse near Brackley, moved to Ufton, moved back to Brackley, and finally moved to Evenley.

William died in the fourth quarter of 1930 in Brackley district. [27]
