Biography
He was born in Kürnbach, Karlsruhe, Baden Württemberg, Germany. He came to America, arriving in Philadelphia in 1785 with his parents.
Marriage and Children
He married Susannah Smith, daughter of George Smith, sometime before 13 Feb 1804, probably in Guilford, Franklin, Pennsylvania.[1]

Death and Estate
He wrote his will on 23 Jul 1860; it was probated on 16 May 1873 in Sandusky, Ohio.[2] He mentions his wife Susanna, daughter Christina Miller and her children; four grandchildren who were the children of his deceased daughter Catharine, wife of John Gern Jr; son Abraham and his children.
Burial: Metzgar Cemetery, Helena, Sandusky County, Ohio.
Research Notes
There were two John Garns of about the same age and living in the same area. They can be differentiated by various court documents. The John of this profile could not sign his name and instead used a mark. This may explain why his name was spelled in various ways in the records that have been located for him.
