Leroy was born in 1930 in Irwin County, Georgia. Raised on a farm he learned many life lessons early. When he was thirteen he taught himself how to play the guitar. Although he didn't know it at the time, this act would impact his whole life. Later at sixteen he taught himself how to play the steel guitar. Along with his two brothers, they began playing and singing which lead him to join some friends in a band. Leroy became very well known in south Georgia by other musicians as a good steel player. He was constantly being asked by others to play with them. This included the Bluegrass duo, Jim & Jesse. They had recently moved to Valdosta and was looking to get the best musicians south Georgia had to offer to play with them. He played with them for several years and also played with many of the Grand Ole Opry stars that appeared as guests on The Jim & Jesse Show. Due to this he made many friends that would last a lifetime. He and his brothers wrote the Jim & Jesse song "Have You Lost Your Love For Me". He passed away in 1995.
