Biography

The John Gilder of Woolstone, who married Elizabeth Washbourn in 1856 and had children with her in the period 1856 - 1863 has been identified with the John Gilder (or Guilder), son of John and Elizabeth Gilder of Alstone, born in 1830. This appears probable because the name Gilder is rare, Alstone and Woolstone are very close to each other, the dates are about right, and the same occupation (agricultural labourer) is given. However, it is not directly stated in the sources cited here. His complete marriage record would probably provide it, as would the 1861 Census, but the latter is not available from findmypast and may be lost.

John married Elizabeth Washbourn in 1856. They had children named Charles, William, Louisa and Herbert. John must have died before 1870, when Elizabeth got married again to Charles Pratt.
