Biography

Patsy was born in 1914, the first child of Richard and Daphne Giles.

She and her younger sister Sheila grew up firstly on a property near Belvidere (now Angas Plains Wines), then moved in 1923 to a property "Glenbarr" near Strathalbyn in the Adelaide Hills. They attended the small local Miss Hobbs Private School in Strathalbyn - refer photo from 1926.

In 1932 Richard Giles and his family moved to Adelaide and leased Glenbarr out to a James Dodd. In 1935 Daphne Bowman, (Richard Giles niece), took over the lease. In 1945 Daphne Bowman bought “Glenbarr” outright and with her English friend, Kathleen Bateman, made “Glenbarr” available first as a camping spot for girl guides and then, after remodelling and developing the barn and the stables, it became a place for school camps, small group activities and functions and also weddings & receptions.

The Giles family moved down to Adelaide, to Strangways Tce, North Adelaide in 1932, then to 20 Northcote Tce, Gilberton in September 1938.

In August 1935 Patsy and her mother departed for a 6-7 month trip to London on the steamship "Moreton Bay", along with her aunt Margaret Bowman and cousin Daphne Bowman.

She met her husband Bey Campbell in 1940, probably at a dance at the South Australian Hotel on North Tce (or at the Tuxedo Club in Peel St), Adelaide and they married in October 1942. They had two children, Richard and Andrew and lived at 43 Walkerville Tce, Gilberton.

Patsy was good at tennis and bridge. She was Secretary of the Mothers & Babies Health Assoc, Walkerville.

Summer holidays were spent at Henley Beach, Victor Harbor, Port Willunga with kids.

Patsy passed away in November 1975 at the age of 61.
