Biography

Roy Franklin Gilstrap, age 72 of 305 East Campbell Avenue, Geneva, died Wednesday morning, October 24, 1979, in Wiregrass Hospital in Geneva after long illness. Funeral services were held at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon from the Geneva First United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Lisenby officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The body remained at the funeral home and was taken to the church one hour before time for funeral services.

Mr. Gilstrap was a native of Ashford, and was employed with Cash Drug Company in Dothan for two years, before moving to Geneva in the year of 1926, when he opened the Gilstrap Drug Company.

He was an active civic leader in civic affairs in Geneva until the time of his death. He served on the Geneva Water Works board from its organization until the time of his death. He was a member of the Geneva Industrial Development Board.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lessie V. Gilstrap of Geneva; one daughter, Mrs. Louise Lewis of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one son, Roy Gilstrap, Jr., of Geneva; 5 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family received friends at the funeral home Thursday night from 7 until 9 pm. Geneva Co. Reaper, 01 Nov 1979
