• Married: Historical Excerpt on her husband Joseph Barbeau : " On July 18, 1871, in Norwich, Conn., he (Her spouse Joseph) was united in marriage to Minnie (Marie) Octavia Girard. They were the parents of three daughters and one son; Minnie, Jessie, Allie and Carl.

He was working in a clothing store when his friend, M. Paige, wanted to move west and he encouraged Joseph to come along saying, "It is in the west that we will make our fortune, with my money and your brains we can't fail."

Finally it was agreed and departure day arrived. Joseph left his wife and children with the promise to send for them as soon as he was located. He started the journey west in 1878. The men looked around in Kansas City, St. Joseph, and St. Louis, Mo., but decided to go on west. He arrived in Lenora on Feb. 17, 1880, and immediately went into business by purchasing a general store and the building, from "Dan Nettleton."

He moved his family to Lenora and shortly thereafter the son and his wife died. The death of two daughters occurred by l894. The oldest daughter, Marie (Minnie) continued to live in Lenora with him. She was a musician and gave lessons on the mandolin and string harp. She eventually moved to California." ^[1]
