Walter Glawe was born on July 18, 1880, and died on August 10, 1967.
He studied theology, philosophy and oriental languages at the University of Berlin from 19000 to 1903, and at the University of Erlangen from 1903 to 1904, receiving his doctorate in 1904.
He was a tutor to Nikolaus von Bismarck-Schönhausen from 1904 to 1908, authoring his main work, The Hellenization of Christianity, for which he received a Licentiate of Sacred Theology.
In 1909, he became affiliated with the University of Rostock, at which he was a private lecturer, and in 1914, he was named an Associate Professor at University of Münster, but became a military chaplain instead. After teaching briefly at the University of Dorpat, he became a Professor at the University of Münster in 1919, and at the University of Greifswald in 1921.
Influenced by right-wing political views, he became a member of the Orgesch in 1921, the Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten, the Kyffhäuserbund and the German National People's Party in 1923.
He initiated the name change of the University of Greifswald to Ernst Moritz Arndt University in 1933, and gave, in 1934, the ceremonial speech for the founding ceremony of the Third Reich.
With the incorporation of the Stahlhelm in the SA, he became Scharführer and he also joined the Nazi Party.
Though he resigned from the SA in 1936, he was advocate of the synthesis of Christian and Nazi ideas.
Dismissed from his university post in 1946, he received a research assignment from the University of Rostock and, by 1949, had joined the Society for German-Soviet Friendship. That same year, he obtained a teaching assignment at the University of Rostock and, by 1951, he had obtained a teaching assignment at the University of Greifswald, where he was appointed a Professor. He retired in 1953, working as a lecturer until 1959.
