Biography

James Columbus Goff was born in Indiana in September of 1853.^[1] He was the son of Washington Jackson Goff and Rebecca Sturdevant.

James married Alice Ann Cain in about 1876.^[2] After their marriage, they lived in Jackson Township, Hamilton County, Indiana,^[3] although they later moved to a farm in Adams Township, also in Hamilton County. They had seven children, all born in Indiana:

In 1880, Alice's teenage sister, Emma D. Cane, was living with them, going to school and providing help with the household work.^[11]

In 1930, James and Alice were living at 130 Georgia Street in the town of Sheridan in Adams Township, Hamilton County, near their eldest son Claude, a banker.^[12]
