Biography

William was born about 1738. He was the second son of Sir Robert Gordon, 4th Baronet of Gordonstoun and Agnes Maxwell. Having succeeded his elder brother Robert to the Baronetcy, as William was also unmarried and his younger brothers having predeceased him, on his death in 1795 the Baronetcy of Gordonstoun became extinct. There were no known legitimate male descendants of any of the first three Baronets only several natural (otherwise illegitimate) sons who could not succeed.
