Fanny was born on February 13, 1839 [1] in Glasgow, Scotland [2] to Elizabeth Hamilton and Thomas Gordon. She was baptized on March 10, 1839. [3] She emigrated from Scotland to Canada sometime in the 1850's. [4] Frances graduated from the Normal School for Upper Canada, [5] a school for training teachers and worked as teacher until she married James Russell in 1861 in Toronto. [6] In 1887 she was a founding charter member of Augustine Church, which was the 4th Presbyterian church to be founded in Winnipeg. Her husband, James Sr. and three of her children- Elizabeth Russell, Frank Russell and James Russell were also listed as charter members. [7] Frances died on 1910 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was buried there in Elmwood Cemetery. [8]
