Biography

According to the 1871 Census, Samuel Gastirk (Gostick) was born at Shoreditch, Middlesex, around 1814. Samuel Gostick married Harriet Wilkinson in 1839, and the marriage was registered at Islington, London. Their son Benjamin Gostick was baptised at St Mary, Islington, in 1847. Samuel Gostick died in 1877, and his death was registered at Pancras, London, in September of that year.

On 10 May 1840, a Samuel Gostick (said to be age 30) pled guilty at the Old Bailey to theft (stealing from "Master") and he was sentenced to serve 3 months at Newgate Prison. They may not be the same person, especially in view of the four year age discrepancy.
