William was born in 1853.

He married Elizabeth Crawford in 1873. ^[1]

In the 1901 census William Gourlie, male, 48, was lived with his wife Elizabeth Gourlie, female, 41, and eight of thier children in Toronto (west/ouest) (city/cité), Ontario, Canada. Their children as listed as Charles Gourlie, male, 17, Etta Gourlie, female, 15, Robert W Gourlie, male, 13, Mabel Gourlie, female, 11, Verna Gourlie, female, 9, George Edgar Gourlie, male, 6, Elwood Gourlie, male, 3, and Agnes Pearl Gourlie, female, 6 months.^[3]

William died of a stroke on 8 Oct 1919 at the age of 66 years and 8 months, he was buried in the Uxbridge Cemetery in Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada.^[4].
