Alexander was born in 1837. He was the son of David Gove and Charlotte Buchan.
He was Christened on 16 April 1837 at Arbuthnott, Kincardine, Scotland[1].
Alexander emigrated from Scotland to South Africa, arriving in the Colony of Natal on board the Priscilla on March 7, 1859.
He married Isabella Petrie on 6 November 1863 in the house of Mr. James Baxter, Berea, Durban, Natal[2]. Alexander was a Blacksmith at the time of his marriage involved in bridge building in Durban.
Alexander and Isabella had 13 children, many of whom died young.
His wife Isabella passed away on 7 July 1905 at the age of 63.
He passed away 8 months later on 31 March 1906 at the age of 69. Cause of Death was recorded as Abdominal Aortic Aneurysum[3].
Alexander was buried at Isipingo Cemetery, Isipingo, Durban, Natal, South Africa[4].
