Her parents were William and Ollie Mills Gover. In the 1920 census Mary (age 7) was the single daughter of Will Gover in Pulaski, Kentucky, United States.^[1][2]

She married Palis Pennington on December 26, 1929 in Somerset, Pulaski County, Kentucky, United States. ^[3]
