Biography

James was born in 1918, the son of John Grainger and Gladys Bossom. He enlisted with the RAAF [1] and was killed in action in 1943 [2].

Died 13 Aug 1943 • Bay of Biscay, Atlantic. 461 Squadron RAAF Flight Officer J C Grainger S/N 40011.[5]

He was the second pilot on Sunderland aircraft that reported enemy fighters approaching the plane. His body was never recovered. The plane had a crew of 11.
