Biography

EDWARD GRAY, b. at Andover, Nov 1705 son of Edward Gray and Sarah Osgood;[1] d. after 1773 perhaps in Maine; m. by 1742, SARAH who has not been identified.[2]

Little firm information is known for this family. They had four children recorded at Andover (although one of the births occurred at Hatfield).[3] The family was in Rindge, New Hampshire briefly. Edward’s son John and his wife Beulah stayed there for several years, but Edward and Sarah were there for a short time being warned out of Rindge in 1773.[4]

On 26 June 1770, Edward Gray with his wife Sarah sold several tracts in Andover, including his homestead farm, to Daniel Lovejoy for payment of £106.13.4. The deed was witnessed by John and Beulah Gray.[5]

  2. It is possible that this is Sarah Coombs who married Edward Gray in Tolland, CT in 1741. Edward’s first cousin Abiel Gray was in Tolland at that time and there are no other Gray families there during that period.
