Gracie was born in 1919. She was the daughter of Granville Gray and Martha Killion. On the 19th of October, 1935. Gracie Lee married Fred Russell Haney in
Lawrence, Arkansas.[1] In April of 1940.[2] the couple are living in Jones Township, Greene County, Arkansas. They are renting and Fred is farming, working 65 hours the week before the census. According to the census, Fred completed the 8th grade, and Gracie completed the 6th grade. The couple have 3 children, all born in Arkansas:
Bettie Lou (3) - born in 1937
Charles (1) - born in 1939
Patsy - born in 1940
Gracie's mother Addie, brother Dewey and nephew Laverne are recorded on the same page of the census. Gracie's sister Slee and her family are also recorded within the same census pages. There are also numerous Haney families listed.
On the 16th of October, 1940, when Fred completed his WWII Draft Card, he described himself as being 6', 195 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair and a light complexion. He was 25 years old. [3]
In 1950,[4] the famly has moved to California, settling in Kern County. They are renting a farm and Fred (24) worked for 77 hours the week before the census. Gracie (32) is keeping house and taking care of the couples childen. In addition to Bettie Lou (13), Charles E. (11), and Patsy (10), the couple have another son and daughter:
Joan (5) - born 1945 in Arkansas
Fred Jr. (3) - born 1947 in Arkansas
Gracie Lee died on the 9th of February, 2001.[5][6] On the 17th of July of that same year, Fred died.[7][8] The couple were buried together in the Paso Robles District Cemetery in Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo County, California.
