Placide Gray, son of Andrew Gray and Charlotte Caissie, was born September 24, 1809 and baptized October 7, 1810 at Saint-Louis-Des-Francais Catholique, Kent, Carleton, New Brunswick.[1]
On June 30, 1838 Placide Gray and Mary Hankerson were married in the Church of England at Chatham, Northumberland County, New Brunswick.[2]
In the 1851 census Placid was the head of household in Glenelg, Northumberland, New Brunswick, Canada. He was a farmer. The three eldest children were actually his step-children and their surname was Hankerson.[3]

In the 1861 census Placid (age 55) was the head of household in Hardwicke, Northumberland, New Brunswick. He was a farmer. He and his nephew John Miller were Roman Catholic and the rest of the family was Church of England. Everyone was born in New Brunswick.[4]
