Paul Everett Green was the son of David Green (1838–1907) and Cornelia Amanda Clarke (1842–1873), who were married on 25 September 1860 in Pickaway County, Ohio. He had three siblings; one older brother, Elmer Elsworth 1861, born in Pickaway County, Ohio, and two younger sisters; Etta Velida 1868, born in Missouri and Berthelda 1871, born in Nebraska.

"The family was scattered and we were never together again. Aunt Belle and Uncle William took Berthelda who was two years old. Etta was adopted by Charles and Rebecca Neibel. [Elmer] went to live with a farmer named Bush."[4]
