Major Greene, acting as colonel, commanded the American forces at Stonington, Conn, when the British made their unsuccessful attack there in August, 1813. He was a farmer, and resided successuvely at Hopkinton, R. I., Lebanon, Conn., De Ruyter and Bolivar, N. Y., and Albion, Wis. In 1844 came to Rock County, and for some years resided in Milton, but subsequently removed to Albion, where he passed the remainder of his days.

In Christiana, Wis., June 16th, 1871, at the residence of his son-in-law, G. W. Buten, Alpheus M. Green, in the 81st year of his age. Brother Green became hopefully converted in early life, and united with the First Hopkinton Church, R. I., in the vicinity of which he resided a number of years maintaining faithfully a Christian life. But as the tide of emigration began to set westward, he with his family were borne upon its current, and united successively with the churches at DeRuyter and Friendship, N. Y., and Albion, Wis., with the last of which he remained a faithful member until removed by death, always taking a deep interest in the affairs of the church and the cause of his Master; coming to his "grave in full age, like a shock of corn cometh in its season." A widow and a number of children survive him, to bear witness to his many virtues, and rejoice in what to them is a temporary loss, but to him eternal gain.
