Biography

Harry Greengo was born on May 24, 1872 in Menomonee Falls, Waukesha, Wisconsin. He was the son of Amos Greengo and his wife Emma Baker Greengo. Both of his parents were born in England. ^[1]

In the 1880 U. S. Census (9 June 1880) ^[2] Harry was eight years old and the family was living in Shell Rock Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota. They had moved there between 1772 and 1778 based on the birth of the Harry and his younger sister. There were four children: May, Irvin, Harry and Lillian. Their father was a farmer.

On March 14, 1894 Harry married Sadie Langsford Gift in Glenville. ^[3] They were both twenty-one years old. Harry's sister Lilian (sic) was a witness.

In the 1900 U. S. Census (4 June 1900) ^[4] Harry was a farmer. He owned the farm with a mortgage. They had two children: Robert W. age 4 and McKinley age 5.

Sadie died on March 16, 1904 in Glenville. ^[5] Harry married Lydia M. Young on August 31, 1904 in Steele County, Minnesota. ^[6]

In the 1910 U. S. Census (April 18, 1910) ^[7] Harry and Lydia's family remained in Glenville (Shell Rock Township). Harry was still farming and now owned his farm without a mortgage. They had five children: Wilton age 14 and McKinley age 12, from his first marriage and Burton age 5, Dayton age 2 and Lynwood age 1 month from his marriage to Lydia. There was a Danish immigrant, Hannah Thord, who was working as a household servant.

Harry later became a horse and cattle buyer. ^[1] His son Wilton followed him in this occupation.

Harry died on December 15, 1935 at the age of sixty-three. ^[1] He died from acute Bright's Disease (kidney disease). He was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville. There is no record of a headstone in Greenwood Cemetery so perhaps his grave was unmarked. His mother and other family members have headstones in this cemetery.
