Mary Gregg,[1][2][3][4] the daughter of John Gregg and his wife, Elizabeth Boothe, was also known as Polly.[4] She was born on 3 Jul 1802 in Randolph County, North Carolina.[1][3][4] She moved with her parents to Ross County, Ohio about 1802, where she grew to maturity.[5] She was a beneficiary named in the will of her uncle, Amos Gregg, who died in 1817.[2]

She married William Long on 3 Jul 1820 in Ross County, Ohio.[2][4][6] They had the following children:

The family moved to Van Buren County, Missouri about 1840, along with her parents and several of her brothers. They lived in Van Buren when its name was changed to Cass County, and continued their residency there until 1853, when they moved by overland stage to Sonoma County, California, where the couple spent the remainder of their lives.

Research Notes

The 1880 census gives her name as Mary A. Long. If this is correct, she probably did not have a sister Mary Ann, but her sister was named just Anna.
