James Gregory was residing in Stoddard, Missouri during the census of 1840. It is unfortunate he "refused to give a list of family members" during the 1850 census. By 1860 James was listed as 63 years old. His wife Matilda was then 43 years of age.[1]
James Gregory was one of the first settlers in what became Malden, Missouri where he established a store. He last appeared in the 1880 census at age 85. He lived to be nearly 100 years of age.
