A very well-preserved Gravestone in the Newtown, Connecticut Village Cemetery reads: "Here Lies the Body of Mr. Samuel Griffin, Son of Lt. John and Mrs. Bulah Griffin who departed Life February 11, 1791 in the 26th year of his age"
This Samuel Griffin has not been identified as being recorded elsewhere to date. The grave marker record of his death, which clearly links him to Newtown's better recorded Lieut. John Griffin, also greatly helps confirm that Lieut. John Griffin is the son of Lieut. Samuel Griffin, whose father in turn was named John, and who is clearly identified in Donald Lines Jacobus' History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield. Lieut. Samuel Griffin and his sons were the only Griffins recorded living in 1700s Newtown, per currently identified records.
