Martha was born on 4 May 1841in Arkansas. She was the daughter of A. S. Griffin and Ellen Perkins. Martha passed away at the age of 81 in Graham, Texas on 2 Apr 1923 and was buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Graham, Texas. [1][2]
1860 Census: Martha Griffin is listed in the Henderson County, Texas home of A. S. (46) and Eleander (46) Griffin. The record reflects that Martha was 17, born in Arkansas, and was employed as a seamstress.[3]
1900 Census: Martha and James (75) Hawley are living in Tarrant County, Texas. The record shows that Martha was 58, born in Arkansas during May of 1842, and that she had been married to James for 25 years.[4]
