Biography

At the time of the 1880 census, 3-year-old Nancy Jane was living with her parents and little brothers. They were living in Pierce County, GA. ^[1] Nancy Jane Griner married Joseph William Davis on September 25, 1890 in Pierce County, GA. ^[2] At the time of the 1900 census, 24-year-old Nancy J. was living with her husband and children In Hortense, GA. She and Joseph had been married for 11 years. During this time, she had borne 5 children, 4 of whom were still living. Nancy could not read or write, and none of the children were attending school. ^[3] At the time of the 1910 census, 35-year-old Janie had been married to Joseph William Davis for 20 years. She had borne 8 children, 6 of whom were still alive. She could read and write. Janie was living in Patterson, GA with her husband and their 6 living children. ^[4] At the time of the 1920 census, 44-year-old Janie was living with her husband, 5 of their children, and 2 of their grandchildren in Patterson, GA. ^[5] At the time of the 1930 census, 55-year-old Janie was living with her husband in Patterson, GA. Living with them were 4 of their children, including Virgie Milissa, and Virgie's 2 young children. ^[6] Janie's husband died in May of 1936, probably from a heart attack. Janie died two months later of hypertension and myocarditis. ^[7][8]
