Biography

Wilmot was born in 1897. He was the son of George Grooby and Rhoda Woods.[1]

He served in the NZ Army in the First World War, Service No. 39491.[2]

A photo of Private Wilmot Robert Grooby can be viewed on the Nelson Provincial Museum site. [3]

He was killed in action on 12 August 1917 in Ypres, Belgium and was buried in Nieppe Communal Cemetery, France.[4][5]

His death was registered in New Zealand in 1918.[6]
