Rosa Lee Guthrie was born on 3 May 1902 in Texas, United States. She was the daughter of James Theophilus Guthrie (1866–1930) and Mary Lavicy (Gilchrist) Guthrie (1869–1925).

Rosa Lee Guthrie and Samuel J. "Jim" Russell were married on 7 September 1919 in McLennan County, Texas.^[1] They were the parents of at least four children.

Rosa Lee (Guthrie) Russell died on 27 May 1990 in Dallas County, Texas, aged 88. She was buried in Moody Cemetery, Moody, McLennan County, Texas.^[2]
