Biography

Christoph Hacker was born in the village of Rußheim in Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany on 2 May 1697 to Johann Stephan Hacker and his wife Anna Maria. He died sometime after 26 Nov 1775 when he was listed as receiving communion at Emanuel Lutheran Church (aka the Warwick Congregation) at Brickerville, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

He married Anna Maria Jock, daughter of Hans Diebold Jock and his wife Anna Margaretha Häusler, on 9 Feb 1723 at the church in Rußheim. She was born 29 Jun 1696 in Rußheim and likely died sometime aft 1773 on the Hacker farm in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

The couple had five children before emigrating in 1752. They were:

  • Christina Hacker Lang (25 Dec 1723 - aft 7 Apr 1776)
  • Maria Catharina Hacker (4 Sep 1725 - 21 Nov 1726)
  • Johann Adam Hacker (28 Oct 1727 - 1782)
  • Anna Margaretha Hacker Haushalter (24 Dec 1729 - 12 Apr 1807)
  • Johann George Hacker (14 Apr 1734 - 14 Oct 1821)

All four of their living children emigrated between 1749 and 1752—first Adam in 1749, then George in 1751, and finally Christoph and Anna Maria with their daughters and their husbands Johann Michael Lang and Lorentz Haushalter.

Note: The Ortssippenbuch Rußheim gives the 1734 year for Johann George's birth. A calculation of his birth date from his age at death also places his birth in 1734. However, a transcription from a German researcher hired by the family has his birth year as 1731. Both are likely to have come from an official source—the church record. Since I have not seen the church entry myself, I'm using the 1734 date since it seems to have been used by the family.
