Biography

John Rankine Hadden was born on 14th March 1921 in Campbelltown, New South Wales, Australia. He was the second son of David Hadden and Janet Waddell. [1]

John Hadden is a Military Veteran.
Served in the Second Australian Imperial Force 1940-1945
2/2nd Machine Gun Battalion

On 3rd June 1940, a month after the evacuation of Dunkirk in France, John enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force. He added a year to his age to aid in enlistment. John was posted to the 2/2nd Machine Gun Battalion, a unit initially of the 7th Division and later the 9th Division. He saw action in the North African, New Guinea and Borneo campaigns. He was discharged after war's end, on 22nd November 1945. [2] After the war he was awarded the campaign and service medals: 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-1945 and Australia Service Medal 1939-1945.

John married Madge Irene Lyneham in 1949 in Campbelltown. [3]
