The application for immigration "Wuerttemberg, Germany Emigration Index", [1] about his father, George Hagel shows the district the family was from was Biberach, Germany. and list Joseph with as DOB 16 Dec 1876, No. 556859.

Joseph departed on the immigration with his brothers, sisters and parents, 1888 on the Ship, La Bretagne from La Havre, France for New York, for Texas. [2] about G Hagel show "G Hagel Arrival: 3 Dec 1888, Male, Nationality: German; Place of Origin: Germany, Port of Departure: Le Havre, France, Destination: Texas; Port of Arrival: New York, NY, USA, Ship: La Bretagne". Joseph would have been age 9-10.
