Biography

Oliver Hagerman was a Michigander.

Oliver John Hagerman was born on August 13th, 1902 in Pontiac, Michigan to John Hageman and Laura Thompson. ^{[1] [2] [3] [4] [5]}

After high school he became a tile setter, but the work was sporadic and left him unemployed at times. ^[3] About 1931 the Hagermans moved to Keego Harbor, and Oliver found work as an automobile mechanic. ^{[6] [7]} In 1942 Oliver was employed by Ben Jerome Motor Sales in Pontiac. ^[5] The Hagermans lived on a farm in West Bloomfield, Michigan, where Oliver attended school through the 10th grade.

He eventually took a job with the Oakland County Building and Grounds Maintenance. ^[8]

Oliver's mother died in 1939, but he remained in his father's household and supported him with his $1,500 annual income. ^{[4] [9]} His father lived until 1944, passing away from prostate cancer. ^[10]

Oliver married Pansy (Kunce) Elkins in Pontiac on July 3rd, 1947. ^[11]

Oliver was one of 85 charters member who founded Christ of the Lakes Lutheran Church in 1960. He served the Church as Sunday school superintendent and was president of the men's club. He also served on the church council and various other committees. He was known as a "grandfather figure" at the church.

He passed away on December 29th, 1986 in Pontiac General Hospital and is buried in Crescent Hills Cemetery in Waterford, Michigan. ^{[8] [12] [13] [14] [15]}

Research Notes

Birthdate - Oliver listed his date of birth as August 13th, 1902 on his World War II draft registration card. The index to his death certificate and the Social Security Death Index, however, provide September 13th, 1903 as his date of birth.
