Charles Haines was born in Biddeford, Maine, in 1848, the son of Theodore and Alvira (Foss) Haines.[1] (Note that his marriage and death records give his place of birth as Saco, Maine.) He grew up in Biddeford, where his father was an "operative", likely working in a mill.[2]
By 1887, he was a resident of Boston, Massachusetts, when he married Florence Hooper, daughter of William and Mary Hooper.[3] They resided in Boston, where he was a letter carrier. They had four children:
Charles Henry Jr., 1888-1918
Barbara Florence, 1890-1930
Edith Hooper, 1896-1957
Theodore Merrill, 1898-1957
He died at his home on Warner Street in Boston in 1911, when he was 62 years old.[4] He is buried at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester, Massachusetts.[5]
