On Wednesday, June 2, the Ven. Archdeacon Pike celebrated the marriage of Edward Crouch, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Crouch, of Estella, and Eileen, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hallam, of Maryvale, Wagga. The bridegroom, who is an Anzac, wore his military uniform, and was attended by Mr. J. A. Mulholland, also an Anzac. The bride's costume of Ivory crepe de chine, trimmed with orange blossoms, was worn with a wreath and veil, and a bouquet of white flowers, tied with the bridegroom's colours. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss K. Hallam, in a frock of cream net, relieved with pink, and a bouquet in the same shade. Mr. Hallam gave his daughter away. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a gold wristlet watch and to the bridesmaid a gold Nellie Stewart bangle. After the ceremony the guests were entertained at the Riverine Cafe by the parents of the bride. The tables were prettily decorated, and several toasts were honoured. Mr. and Mrs. Crouch left for Sydney by mail train, the bride wearing a frock of navy crepe de chine, with white furs and-white hat. Mr. and Mrs. Crouch will reside in Wagga.[5]
Mrs Ada Eileen Crouch, wife of Mr. Edward D. Crouch, of Station Street, Penrith, died in Nepean District Hospital last Friday at the age of 49 years. Deceased had been ailing for over twelve months, and for the last eight months had been in hospital.
Mrs. Crouch was born at Dalton, N.S.W., and was the fourth daughter of Mr John Hallam and the late Mrs. Hallam, of Wagga. She was married at Wagga in June, 1919. Mr. and Mrs. Crouch first lived at that town, and afterward at Griffith and Riverstone, and for the last twelve years in Penrith.
Besides her husband deceased leaves a daughter (Katherine, Mrs. George D'Aran) and two sons (John and Neville), as well as the undermentioned three sisters and one brother-Mrs. Arthur Dixon (Kings-ford), Mrs .W. Hume (Wagga), Mrs S. McCabe (Wagga), and Mr. John Hallam (Wagga).
The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon and was well attended. A service at St. Stephen's Church, Penrith, was conducted by Rev. R. S. Chapple, who spoke of the good life of deceased and her interest in church work. Mrs Crouch attended church regularly while she was able to do so.
The line staff of the P.M.G's Department was represented at the funeral by Inspector E. A. Haigh and other members. Many beautiful wreaths were received, including one from the staff.[8]
Ada Eileen Hallam, daughter of John and Mary, was born at Gunning in 1894. In 1920 she married Edward Crouch at Wagga Wagga. Edward was born at Crystal Brook in South Australia, son of Edward Crouch and Ruth Blankley, married at Merriton, South Australia in 1885. Ada and Edward had four children, Katherine, John, Neville and Geoffrey, born between 1920 and 1930. Katherine and John were born in Wagga Wagga. It is not known where Neville and Geoffrey were born.
Ada died at Penrith, west of Sydney, in 1943 and is buried at Penrith. Edward died in 1968 at Grenfell in central western NSW and is also buried at Penrith. Of Ada's and Edward's children Geoffrey died in Sydney in 1932 and is buried at Penrith, Katherine died in 1994 in New South Wales and Neville died in 2000. [10]
