Biography

Margaret Henrietta Hamilton was born on 20 March 1799 Orangeburg, South Carolina, USA. Her parents were Robert Hamilton and Margaret "Peggy" (Durant) Hamilton.

She married widower Samuel Nesmith Snow (1790-1833) on 25 June 1816 in Georgetown County, South Carolina. They had 5 children:

1. Dr Gabriel Calvin Snow, 1819–1876
2. Samuel Henry Snow, 1821–1836
3. Margaret Frances Snow, 1825–1880
4. Elijah H Snow, 1827–1894 - Twin who survived
5. Elizabeth H. Snow, 1827 - Twin; died as an infant

Samuel N. Snow and his 2nd wife, Margaret (Hamilton) Snow had a plantation in Williamsburg District, South Carolina, USA. He was recorded as "N. Samuel Snow," living with his wife, age 16-26; his widowed mother: age over 45; and 3 small sons: G. Calvin, under age 5; Thomas H. & William James Snow, both between 5-10 years old. ^[1]

By January 1825, when their daughter, Margaret Frances Snow, was born, Samuel, Margaret and their family had left South Carolina and were living on a different plantation in Lowdnes County, Alabama, USA. His last 3 children were all born in Lowdnes County, Alabama. He was recorded as "Head of Household" there on the 1830 US Census. ^[2]

Samuel N. Snow passed away on his Alabama plantation on 13 September 1833. Widow Margaret (Hamilton) Snow re-married to John Jacob Moorer (1784-1851), originally from Orangeburg, South Carolina, on 13 August 1835 in Lowndes County, Alabama, USA. ^[3] Margaret (Hamilton) Moorer and her 2nd husband had 1 daughter together: Elizabeth J. M. Moorer, about 1836 – about 1836; died at birth.^[4]

Margaret (Hamilton) Snow Moorer passed away in Lowndes County, Alabama, on 6 December 1845. She was buried at the Snow Cemetery, Lowndes County, Alabama, USA. ^[5]
