Joshua Hammond, born about 1831, was a son of Nancy Hammond. He had four known siblings.
The Hammond family was enslaved and owned by John M. Gorsuch. Upon his death, about 1845, the family was willed to his nephew, Edward Gorsuch.[1]
Joshua was given a manumission that would take effect when he reached the age of 28, about 1859.
Joshua Hammond ran away from Edward Gorsuch 6 November 1849. It is thought he went to Pennsylvania, a free state about 30 miles away. [2]It is thought that Joshua Hammond was present during the Christiana Resistance which occurred in September, 1851.
Joshua Hammond's birth date/place and death date/place will need to be confirmed.
Also his involvement in the Christiana Resistance, and where he ended up later.
