Biography

Edith Irene Hammond was born June 25, 1888 in Bloomfield, Knox, Nebraska, USA. [1][2] Her parents were William Henry Hammond and Malana Elizabeth Stevens.

She moved with her folks to Niobara, Knox, Nebraska [3] and then after, to Wausa, in the same county.[2]

In 1910, she is listed living with her family in Magnet, in Cedar County. [4] After finishing school, she went to Hastings, in Adams County, where she worked as a cook for a local college. She later returned to Wausa, where she met Andrew F. Jacobson. They were married October 26, 1914, in Wayne, Wayne County, Nebraska. [2]

Together, they operated a candy and cigar store for a while, then moved to a farm east of Wausa. [2] In 1920, they were living Cedar County, also in Nebraska. [5]

Later, they farmed land in Kennebec, Lyman, South Dakota [2], near while they were living in White River. [6]

In 1934, they moved to Idaho.[2] In 1940, they are listed as living in Claytonia in Owyhee County (her husband working as a farmer and Edith as a laborer in a fruit orchard). [7]

In 1942, they are living in Marsing, also in Owyhee County. [8]

They lived there until 1963, when they moved to Middleton, and later, Nampa, in Canyon County, Idaho. Andrew died December 26, 1968. They had no children. [2][9][10]

Edith died February 7, 1975 at a nursing home in Caldwell, Canyon, Idaho, and was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery. [11]

From her obituary, listed in The Idaho Statesman, Sunday, February 9, 1975, Page 5-D: [11]

"CALDWELL — Services for Edith Irene Jacobson, 86, Caldwell, who died Friday at a Caldwell nursing home, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at Dakan Chapel by the Rev. Burres of the Wilder Methodist Church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. She was born June 25, 1888, in Bloomfield, Neb. She was reared, in [Nebraska] and married Andrew F. Jacobson Oct. 26, 1914, in Wayne, Neb. They farmed in Wausa, Neb., before moving to Kennebec, S.D., where they farmed. They moved to Marsing in 1934 and lived there until 1963 when they moved to Middleton. He died Dec. 26, 1968. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Willian Williams of Marina, Calif.; and two brothers, Charles F. Hammond of Caldwell, and Dr. William Hammond of Monterey, Calif."
