Biography

William Robert Hancock was born in 1831 in Torpoint, Cornwall, England. He was the son of Robert Hancock and Francenia. [1][2]

In 1851, William R Hancock (20, unmarried, an apprentice carpenter) was living with his mother, Francenia Trenough (50, a widowed governess, born in Saltash, Cornwall) in Fore Street, Antony, Cornwall. [3]

By looking at the birth records and comparing them to the censuses, we know that William Robert Hancock was married to Mary Westhorp. [4][5][6][7][8] The marriage took place in 1855 in Poplar, London. [9]

In 1861, William R Hancock (30), a builder and joiner, born in Torpoint, Cornwall) and his wife, Mary (27) (born in Poplar, Middlesex) had three children, Robert W (4), Froncena H (4), and Janet Mary (1), living with them in Bromley, Middlesex, England.[10]

In 1871, William Robert Hancock (40, a builder, born in Torpoint, Cornwall) and his wife, Mary (born in Poplar, Middlesex) had six children, Robert William (14), Froncena Hannah (12), and Janet Mary (11), Emily E (8), Ernest Charles (6) and Clifford Henry (1), living with them in Bromley, Middlesex, England. [11]

In 1881, William R. Hancock (55, an english cabinet maker) was living in Toronto, York, Ontario, Canada with his wife, Mary (50, born in England) and six children, Earnest C (16), Clifford H (13), Jannet M (21), Emily E (19), Kattie E (7) and Franceni A Hancock (24). [12]

The 1901 Census gives immigration year as 1871. William Hancock (71), his wife, Mary (66) and their two children, Clifford (30) and Katie (26) were living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. [13]

In 1911, Clifford (42) remained unmarried and was living with his parents, William (78) and Mary (75) in Toronto. [14]

William Hancock (83) of 587 Dundas Street, Toronto, died on 24th August 1913 in Toronto. [15]
