Biography

Ernest was born in 1865. He passed away in 1924.

Ernest was baptized May 3, 1865, St Leonard St Mary, Bromley, Tower Hamlets, England. He was the son of William Robert and Mary Hancock.^[1]

In 1871 Ernest's father, William Robert Hancock, was a builder. The family was living in Bromley, St Leonard in London, Middlesex. 6-year-old Ernest was one of 6 children in the home of William and Mary.^[2]

In 1881 16-year-old Earnest was working as a cabinet maker and living with his parents, William and Mary Hancock in St Thomas Ward in the city of Toronto. Two siblings, Clifford (13) and Jannet (21) were also in residence.^[3]

On May 16, 1888, Mary Ann Allward married Ernest Charles Hancock in Toronto. Mary, born in Newfoundland, was the daughter of John and Emma Allward and was living in Toronto. Ernest, born in London, England, was the son of Wm Robert and Mary Hancock. Ernest was a clerk in Toronto. Witnesses were Bessie Allward, Charles Allward and Fred N Warren, all of Toronto.^[4]

The couple would take up residence in St David's Ward of Toronto and Ernest was employed as a lumber dealer.^[5]

In 1911, Ernest and Mary were living on Eerie Street in Hamilton with their two sons, Clarence (19) and Arthur (17). Ernest was the manager of a hardware store.^[6]

In 1921 Ernest and Mary were living on their own in a 6 room brick home they rented on Grant Ave in Hamilton. Ernest was now the owner of a hardware store.^[7]

Ernst Charles Hancock was born March 21, 1865, in London, England to Wm R Hancock and Mary Westock. He was married to Mary Ann Alward and was the manager of a heating company. He died at the age of 59 on July 23, 1924, in Peoria, Illinois. He was buried in Toronto on July 27.^[8]
