Obit: Bro. John D. Harding was born in Frederick County, Maryland, March 7, 1798, and departed this life Nov. 30, 1868, aged 70 years, 8 months and 23 days with pneumonia. He united with Pleasant Hill Church May of 1837. He was a genial companion. Often at the close of Sabbath services in the old log Meeting House, he would return with my father to our house. He would take me on his knee and stroke my hair, for I was a boy then. He would tell my father that Will will some day be a man. Years rolled around and wide space separated me from my childhood home. I became a man and Bro. Harding went down to cross the river. (Jordon) At three score years and ten, he found the boat and passed to the other shore. I was summoned to preach at his funeral, for I was a man now. In my heart I cried, "My Father, My Father, the chariot and horesmen of Israel". (Elisha's words when Elijah went to Heaven in a chariot of fire). John D., his wife Martha and young daugher Ann are buried at Pleasant Hill. - provided by Ralph Shonk
