Mary Ruth Smedley, 90 1/2, of Apison went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 30, 2007.

She was born on October 25, 1916 in Cleveland, TN, the daughter of Charlie Dennie and Mary Elizabeth Hardwick.

She retired from the United States Postal Service as Postmaster of Apison, TN. At the age of nine years, she accepted Christ as her Savior at the Old Prospect Baptist Church, Apison. She was a member of Apison Baptist Church for 81 1/2 years. She served her Lord in several different capacities in the church. She was a member of The Eastern Star, Ooltewah Chapter #365, for 63 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Everette Hardwick; three sisters, Lou Johnson, Dennie Hill, and Sarah Lou Hardwick. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Ray Smedley.

She is survived by: four grandsons, Mark Edward Smedley, Brian Matthew Smedley, Chattanooga, William Paul Smedley, Hixson, and Christopher Phillip Heiner, Ooltewah.

She has two granddaughters: Kristy Louise Smedley, Chattanooga and Heather Elizabeth Smedley, Shiloh, TN; and one great Granddaughter, Riley Smedley, Chattanooga.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2007 in the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Blalock and Dr. Leroy Spinks officiating.

Interment will follow in Plowman Cemetery in Apison. The grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m. Friday followed by an Eastern Star service at 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421
