John Harrington was born in 1853 at Camberwell, Surrey, England. He was the son of James Harrington and his second wife Ann Hughes.[1]
John's family are not found in the 1861 census.
In the 1871 census, John Harrington was age 17 living at Camberwell, Surrey with his father James Harrington (54), mother Ann Harrington (52), siblings Eliza Harrington (14), Charlotte Harrington (12). Occupation: Gardener.[2]
In the 1881 census, John Harrington was age 27 living at Forest Street, West Ham, Essex with his sister Sarah Cromack (25) her husband Jabez A Cromack (28) and children Ann Cromack (5), Ruth Cromack (3), Alfred J Cromack (0). Occupation: Gardener.[3]
It has not been possible to definitively identify John in the 1891 census. There were multiple John Harringtons born in London around the same time who appear in the census as single, working as labourers and lodging in various places but none which specifically mentions Camberwell as birthplace.
In the 1901 census, John Harrington was age 48 living at Camberwell, Surrey with his sister Eliza Larner (44) and her son Walter Larner (13). Occupation: Boro Council Labourer.[4]
In the 1911 census, John Harrington was age 59 at Camberwell Workhouse, Constance Road, East Dulwich, Surrey.[5]
In 1913 John was also admitted to Camberwell Workhouse and then the Eye Hospital.[6]
It is not known when John died.
