Note N20William Harris Obituary
W. H. HARRIS PASSES
AWAY IN OREGON
Mr. and Mrs. Eli Harris of Little Bear were notified Tuesday of the death of their son, W. H. Harris, in Lakeview, Oregon, where he had gone in hope of being benefited by the change in climate. The news came as no surprise, as the young man had notified his parents in a letter which they received Friday that his physicians had given up all hope for his recovery, and that he would be unable to come home. His wife was with him at the time of his death.
William Henry Harris was born in Yates, [sic] Center, Kansas, May 21 1879, four years later coming to Moscow with his parents where he spent 25 years of his life. At the time of his death he was 36 years, 2 months, and 16 days of age. His occupation was bridge builder, having started at the trade under his father who is a contractor in this line of work. Until about two years ago the deceased was employed on the railroad when he was compelled to give up work on account of his health. It finally developed that he had contracted tuberculosis, and in the last year his health failed raidly [sic].
When the Spanish-American war broke out, Mr. Harris enlisted in Co. D , I. N. G., at Moscow, which served in the Philippines. He made a splendid military record and when the company was mustered out he received an honorable discharge. While in the service he was admired by his comrades.
In addition to the wife and parents, the surviving are four sisters and one brother. They are; Mrs. Pearl Clancy, Dayton, Wash ; Mrs. Minnie Teel, Kellogg, Idaho; Mrs. Cynthia Crowley, Moscow; Ruth and Chas. Harris, Troy.
Mr. Harris was well known in this section and was highly esteemed by all who were acquainted him. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of all in this their great loss.
The body will be accompanied to Moscow by the widow for internment in the cemetery at that place. The funeral sermon will be preached by Rev. G. W. Fowler, pastor of the Moscow Christian church, at the Steltz undertaking parlor, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
