The No 1 Harris pedigree in the 1558 Visitation of Essex[1] stated that George Harris was a son of William Harris of Southminster, Essex, and his first wife Joane Smithe.
However, the entry in the 1552 Visitation of Essex[2] had stated that William Harres of 'Sudemeset' [presumably Southminster] esq. married Johana Smyth, daughter of John Smyth of Norton and by her had issue William son and heir, and Richard 2nd son. There was no mention of a son George.
George Harris was not recorded in the will of William Harris esq. of Southminster, the will made on 12 Sep 1556[3].
In 1561 a document concerning the deceased William Harris of Malden, Essex (the son of William Harris of Southminster), also noted a George Harris, deceased.[4]
