Biography

Harris was born in 1822. He was the son of Seth Haskell and Lydia Higgins. He passed away in 1905.

About 1840, Harris married Jane Williamson in Cortland, Cortland County, New York. They had the following children:

Alice Jane Haskell Burvee Snow 20 May 1847 – 20 June 1919

Harris "Delos" Haskell 1849 – 7 February 1896

Norman "Dorr" Haskell March 1857 – 26 February 1912

In 1850, Harris (age 28) and Jane (age 28) farmed in Cortlandville with their children: Lydia A. (age 5) and baby Delos.

In 1855, Harris (age 32) and Jane (age 33) farmed in Cortlandville with their children: Alice (age 9) and Delos (age 5). Harris's parents, Seth (age 66) and Lydia (age 54) farmed next door with son Norman (age 20).

In 1860, Harris (age 38) and Jane (age 38) farmed in Cortlandville with their children: Alice (age 14), Delos (age 10), and Dorr (age 3). The family had $300 in personal property. Seth and Lydia farmed next door.

In 1865, Harris (age 44) and Jane (age 45) farmed in Cortlandville with their children: Alice, Delos (age 15), and Dorr (age 8). Seth and Lydia farmed next door.

Jane died in 1870. That year, Harris (age 47) farmed in Cortlandville with his children: Alice (age 24), Delos (age 21), and Dorr (age 13). Also living in the household was Alice's baby daughter, Minnie Haskell. Delos and Dorr were day laborers. Harris's mother, Lydia (age 72), lived next door.

In 1875, Harris (age 52) farmed in Cortland with his children: Alice (age 29), Delos (age 25), Dorr (age 18), and Minnie (age 5). Also living in the household were granddaughters Minnie (age 5) and baby Catherine "Kate" Haskell. Kate was the daughter of Delos and Eliza Louise Hoyer. Eliza wasn't listed in the household and there's no further mention of her until the 1892 New York Census. She and Delos had three other daughters after 1892, including twins born in 1895.

In 1880, Harris (age 56) farmed in Cortlandville with his children: Alice (age 34), and Delos (age 30). Granddaughters Minnie (age 10) and Kate (age 5) still lived with the family.

In 1892, Harris (age 69) farmed in Cortlandville with Delos (age 42) and Delos's wife Eliza (age 35).

In 1900, Harris (age 78) lived on the family farm in Cortlandville with son Dorr (age 43) and Dorr's wife Sarah E. Haskell (age 42). A Massachusetts man, John Lane (age 56) boarded with the family. John was a day laborer.

In 1905, Harris (age 84) lived on the family farm in Cortlandville with Dorr (age 48) and Sarah (age 46).
